Japandi – wallpaper
Carte Blanche — where Japandi meets wabi-sabi’s darker whispers. Designed for a property in Astrea, Mont Kiara which explores modern restraint and poetic imperfection.
This interior embraces the quiet drama of contrast — deep, near-walnut woods anchor walls wrapped in textured duality. The grain of walnut wallpaper meets the tactile roughness of grey paper-finished paint, creating layers that capture the difference between dusk and twilight.
Shadow as infrastructure — a manifesto in considered darkness.
While traditional Japandi spaces embrace light and airiness, this interpretation explores its more contemplative counterpart. Here, intimacy is woven into the design — it is an invitation to linger. A subtle celebration of wabi-sabi, where imperfections aren’t highlighted but appreciated.
As a result, brushed metal accents and soft, diffused lighting temper the mood, balancing warmth with quiet sophistication. This subtle harmony reflects modern interior design in Kuala Lumpur, where craftsmanship, texture, and tone converge to define understated luxury.
Ultimately, Carte Blanche celebrates the beauty of imperfection — not as flaws to conceal, but as textures to embrace — revealing a home that feels deeply human, grounded, and quietly captivating.
